And the Fifi Award goes to…..

Save the Date® is honored to be planning this year’s FiFi® Awards. These awards are considered the “Oscars” of the fragrance industry and this prestigious, iconic New York event showcases and honors the art, passion and personalities of the fragrance world. This year, the Foundation is honored to welcome Emmy and Golden Globe Award Winner, actress Jane Lynch as host and emcee of the evening’s program along with special guests Carol Alt, Sam Champion, Philippe Cousteau, Josh Groban, Nicole Richie, Jessica Stam, Martha Stewart and more yet to be announced!

Some of the big, the bold, instantly recognizable fragrance names, celebrity creations and collaborations as well as smaller, niche innovators are all competing to win a “Fragrance of the Year Award”. Over 800 guests will be in attendance at AvAlice Tully Hall where twenty seven beautiful crystal FiFi ® awards will be bestowed – a recognized symbol of fragrance excellence. On FiFi® night, industry company presidents, CEO’s, high-level executives and their guests mix and mingle with celebrities and VIP’s from the fashion, stage, screen and music worlds who join in the fun, sometimes as guests, sometimes as presenters and sometimes as winners themselves in a fragrance category!

A highlight of the evening will be the 2012 “Elizabeth Taylor Fragrance Celebrity of the Year Award” presented to Justin Bieber. The “Elizabeth Taylor Fragrance Celebrity of the Year Award” honors a celebrity who has embraced and promoted the world of fragrance.

A Highlight of the evening will be the induction of Gabrielle Coco Chanel into
The 2012 FiFi® Hall of Fame. This award is voted on by the Foundation’s Board of Directors and is presented to an individual who has brought extraordinary ingenuity, creativity, dedication and inner resources to bear, not only to their company’s success but to the fragrance industry as a whole. It is quite astonishing that in the year 2012, a fragrance introduced in 1921 and simply named Chanel No 5 prevails as one of the most enduring and iconic symbols of style, elegance and modern scent creativity the world has ever known.

Taking the Center out of Centerpieces

AAAAAhhhhh, SPRING! The days are getting longer, the temperatures here in New York City, as well as the pollen count have been rising and the tulips have bloomed on Park Avenue. All of these are indicators of the beginning of our busiest season, Spring. We are in full gear for Benefit and Wedding Season! I love this time of year and in my business as we have the opportunity to be inventive with standard décor elements of an event, such as lighting, table linens, flowers and place settings.

Right now, I love the trend in table decor that brings multiple sized arrangements of different sizes together to make a statement, instead of the predictable one large centerpiece. By mixing multiple elements, vessels and candles (but only at night, candles during the day are a pet peeve of mine) together at different heights and widths; tables come alive. I say, mix textures, colors and different vases on a table.

Max out one color of different flowers, or same flower in different colors divided among short silver cups. Use rocks, shells, grass and interesting textures to make your tables come alive and bring the outdoors, indoors. The tables do not need to be the same – as a matter of fact, I love it when they are not universal. We are ending the high flowering branch season, so grab them before they are gone. Nothing lights up a cocktail space like a 4 sided bar with a huge flowering branch arrangement in the center.

For weddings and social events, you can add personal elements, like small family pictures, bowls of favorite candies and objects that reflect the personalities of the hosts; golf balls, travel souvenirs, ballet shoes, cartoon characters, whatever! Let your personality shine through! For benefits and corporate occasions, include elements pertinent to the cause, raffle items and fundraising elements. We did an event for a school and made all the centerpieces out of school supplies: colored paperclips, stacks of markers and chalk boards combined together for structures that were all donated afterwards.

The fresh green of the grass inspires me to get creative – you should too!

“This is going to be a _________ wedding!”

Our latest wedding took place at the classic and historic University Club in Midtown Manhattan. The bride, a native Texan, and the groom wanted their special day to be fun, special and charming – just like them. And boy did they have FUN! To start of the day, one of our fabulous photographers, Anthony Vazquez, took ‘creating moments’ to the next level. He stopped traffic on 5th avenue and had the couple run in the middle of the street and dance –which made for some amazing photos! Onlookers clapped and cheered for the bride, in her hot pink shoes, and the groom and they danced in the street.

After stopping at the NY Public Library and Bryant Park, the bridal party headed to the University Club for their ceremony in the elegant College Hall.

As an ice breaker for their guests, each place setting had its own ad-libs so guests could have some fun with the couple. Everyone rocked out to the Pete Saunders Band courtesy of Hank Lane and received individual gumball machines at the end of the night with personalized M&Ms. Take a look at these fab photos! http://video214.com/play/87DOKalo0Yjk6qFfNpGeBw/s/dark

A Sleepy Hollow Wedding

A Sleepy Hollow Wedding

Tim Burton, Sleepy Hollow and Star Wars may not have you thinking ‘wedding’, but for one of our brides it epitomized her big day. Save the Date went above and beyond – no pun intended – to execute her vision.

We knew the design needed to be dramatic, so we paired her with a décor company known for their romantic floral design, In Bloom. Tables overflowing with moss, birdcages filled with wisteria, bouquets of succulents, fiddlehead ferns and black calla lilies filled their wedding venue, Angel Orensanz. The dramatic lighting of the space accentuated the gothic architecture of the space as Spanish moss hung from the chandeliers. Every detail was considered in the design of this event. The bride walked the aisle to the Star Wars theme song and the ring bearer pillow even donned the rebel insignia!  And to shake up tradition just a little more, we had groomsmaids and bridesmen who accompanied the lovely couple down the aisle.

The vegetarian buffet focused on “Old Country” and American comfort foods like Mac ‘n cheese, root vegetable pot pies, spaetzle and latkes. Guests feasted, danced the night away and were treated to a Pumpkin Spice topsy-turvy wedding cake at the end of the night. Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker topped the cake, of course.

What a magical night for all involved. We were so thrilled to be a part of such a special and unique event. It was a great reminder to all of us that a wedding should be a reflection of the couple and not about the vendors or the planner. Cheers to that!

40, 50, Fierce and Fabulous

Save the Date had the pleasure of planning two distinctive and very different birthday celebrations at the same venue, Glass Houses, only weeks apart.  Each event that we plan is unique and we take pride in customizing each party to the individual style and taste of our clients.  Needless to say, we had our work cut out for us…how to plan two amazing parties that didn’t resemble one another at all?

Forty & Fierce: We helped our divalicious client to plan one heck of a party for her 40th birthday.  As a fun and fabulous woman, she wanted her celebration to be all about decadence, without being too “girly”.  We worked with Ed Libby & Co. to create a lush, feminine wonderland.  Texture was very important to our client, so all of the furnishings were upholstered in luxurious fabrics in rich pink and deep purple tones.  We also lit the space in purple to further accentuate the color palette.  The bar and lounge vignettes were embellished with gold tassels, lampshades, and candelabras which helped to create a sexy ambiance.  Persian rugs were also brought in to warm up the space and camouflage the gray floors.
Fifty & Fabulous: Our lovely client was planning a birthday celebration in honor of her husband to commemorate his 50th birthday.  The perfect way to describe them as a couple is understated, yet sophisticated and elegant, so this is the aesthetic that we brought into the space.  Marc Wilson Design transformed this raw space into a Ralph Lauren-inspired oasis by bringing in black and gold lounge furniture with clean lines and crisp white flowers.  It was important that our guests felt that they were walking into someone’s cozy living room, not a cold event space.  We achieved this by bringing in family photos which added to the “hominess” and lit the space in a warm amber hue.  Lighting is an inexpensive way to take any design to the next level.
I think we succeeded in transforming one space into two outrageous events…tell us what you think!

Be My Valentine…or not

My thought on Valentine’s Day is, if I get flowers from my man on this ONE DAY, but not any of the other 364 days, then he’s not for me, but….we don’t look a gift horse in the mouth right girls? AND yes, I think Valentine’s Day is just for us ladies. Men, so sad, too bad.

But, if you are coupled up or single, here are a few things I love that makes my day a bit brighter regardless…

* Buy your self a new lip gloss…it’s always a HUGE pick me up…my fave is Chanel ‘giggle’ I swear it looks good on everyone.

* A cookie from Levain Bakery ( www.levainbakery.com). They are to-have-a-nervous-breakdown they are so good. Probably 1,000 calories in one cookie, but, so worth it (I’m partial to the Choc choc chip, but the Oatmeal Raisin is to die too), if you are not in NYC, then I do love Godiva truffles.

* Listen to the song ” I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO and get your swerve on.

* Take a Soul Cycle class…(now open in LA too) nothing is sexier than you feeling powerful. www.soul-cycle.com

* If a couple, read ’50 Shades of Grey’ to each other and visit Babeland. No need to say more.

*Or take your honey to a fabulous dinner – I love Imperial No. 9 in the Mondrian Soho (www.mondriansoho.com) or the cozy neighborhood gem, Red Farm (www.redfarmnyc.com) in the West Village

*If single, or like me, married and don’t believe in hallmark holidays, we stay in, drink our own good wine (just drank a great one today with a retail price of $13.00 and it was GREAT called QUATTRO from Chile) order veggie dumplings from China Fun (still my fave on the UES, or Dim Sum a Go Go downtown) watch the entire season of Nurse Jackie (LOVE) and laugh.

We Plan and God Laughs!

After almost nine months of planning, not even a few sprinkles of rain could stop us or the huge success of Casa Barilla & the Andrea Bocelli Concert this past September. Save the Date partnered with Young & Rubicam as project manager on Barilla Pasta’s famous “Summer of Italy” in New York City. We managed each of the seven agencies involved in planning this event as well as the execution of multiple events leading up to Casa Barilla.

Events leading up to Casa Barilla:
- “Meal for a Meal” truck initiative
- Fiat “Hidden Gem” guerrilla marketing campaign

Casa Barilla

We’re back!

We know it’s been a while, but we’ve had a busy event season and have so many exciting events to share!

As Save the Date continues to grow and expand, so does our scope of events. In addition to working with corporations and non-profit organizations, we have had the opportunity to work with clients on the biggest moments of their lives. Here is one of our favorite bar mitzvahs from the past year….

This bar mitzvah was one of the most fabulous events we’ve done to date. Held at a large downtown loft-space, we transformed the room from a blank canvas into a technology wonderland. Here are some before and after photos of the venue:

Guests entered the event through a electric blue light tunnel and were greeted by our uniform-clad ‘tech support’. Armed with a customized iPad, the tech support gave each attendee a USB drive with their designated table number. All the latest video and arcade games as well as roaming magicians entertained the younger guests before the main event. Personalized pillows with “LOL” ‘OMG” and “ROFL” decorated the oversized furniture. Adults sipped on drinks from our “Genius Bar” and danced the night away – there was even a surprise black-light dance set! At the end of the night, the Treats Truck, which was parked outside the venue, sent guests away with a little something sweet. Below are some more pictures from this amazing night.

Tips from our Chick!

Here are some great superbowl tips that were recently featured on www.pagedaily.com written by our owner, Jennifer Gilbert:

Who’s All Excited About the Big Super Bowl Party This Sunday?
Quite frankly, I don’t watch football. I had to google who is playing this weekend. (All other football-phobic girls out there, it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Green Bay Packers.) But I LOVE a good party, football-related or not. So what makes this party different from other Super Bowl parties? The game is the game, but the experience your guests have from the second they enter your home for a Super Bowl party . . . well, that can be different.

Super Bowl Party Décor That Scores Points with Guests
Your home’s entry can make your guests feel as if they’re stepping into Cowboys Stadium. To create the tunnel that leads to the field, tack a sheet around the ceiling and walls of a hallway. Then, instead of using a typical sports-bar look or team colors, here’s a clever spin. Recreate a football field on a large table using artificial or natural grass, or a piece of green indoor/outdoor carpet. With white tape, mark the field’s yard lines. Then, spread the bowls and platters of food on each side of the field. You can even blow up a photo of crowds or a football scene, and use that to transform your home into a Super Bowl stadium.

Other Super Bowl Sunday Decorating Ideas
• Place your grass or green carpet on your tables and bar area. Then, plant Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers team flags into the turf to complete the look.
• Create seating signs for “cheerleaders,” “players,” “press box,” “owners box,” and more. If you’re partying in several rooms, use one of them for “tailgating” and conversation.
• Get life-size posters of the teams’ MVPs, and photograph guests with their favorite player.
• Use colored plastic cups to identify fans for each team.

Go Native with Your Super Bowl Party Menu
Forget the nachos and subs. Your menu can celebrate the Super Bowl teams, while still being easy and fun. It’s time to look forcookbook recipes and make dishes that cheer “Pittsburgh” and “Green Bay.”
• Put the Pittsburgh Steelers on Your Super Bowl Menu
The Roethlis-Burger is a hamburger named after Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger—ground beef, sausage, scrambled eggs, grilled onions, and American cheese. Or try pierogi, Polish dumplings filled with potato, cheese, onion, or sauerkraut. They’re Pittsburgh favorites.
• Perfectly Cheesy Party Food for the Green Bay Packers
Packer fans are known as “cheeseheads,” so a cheese platter or cheese fondue are perfect for the Wisconsin side of your football field. Or go for small dishes of mac-and-cheese. For dessert, cheesecake or cheesecake lollipops are naturals.

Super Bowl Sunday Drink Picks
No need to do shots with your best hard liquor. Pour signature drinks for each team, and stock your bar in advance with the makings for these cocktail recipes. For Green Bay, complement the Wisconsin cheese theme of the food with a tequila-happy fruit punch—the Green Bay Punch. Pittsburgh Steelers fans can toast their team with the Golden Goblet, which is like a vodka-soaked Jim Palmer. (See recipes below.)

At Meal’s Endzone on Super Bowl Sunday, the Ref Calls Dessert
Round out your menu with gourmet treats and sweets in the team colors (gold and black for the Steelers, yellow and green for the Packers). Not up for baking cupcakes frosted in green and gold? Try your local cupcake trucks or candy store.

Super Bowl Party Games: Fun on the Field & Out of Bounds
On Super Bowl Sunday, having fun other than watching the game isn’t a penalty. Try these “sports.” Whatever Super Bowl party game you choose, your guests will feel like winners!
• Play a Super Bowl Trivia Game: Write Super Bowl XLV-related questions—the teams, the players, the states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—on index cards, and post them on a wall in the shape of a goal post. Or try football bingo. Use traditional bingo cards, and award prizes for cards that show the game score at the end of each quarter.
• Super Bowl Product Placement Game: For me, the best part of the Super Bowl is the commercials. Advertisers pay millions of dollars to premiere new, creative commercials during the game. During each spot, let guests compete to guess the product first. Or ask your guests to rate the commercials, and then take a vote to determine who picked the best ones.
• Super Nerf Bowl Games for Kids: For the pee-wee footballers on your guest list, keep them entertained with Nerf footballs in the team colors, a roll of craft paper to decorate with football-themed stickers and crayons, or a football-shaped piñata to break open during halftime.
