<p>On Thursday, November 13, 2014, an evening of two incredible events was set to begin. The night started off all the way on the west side of Manhattan, where the Live Life Full Gala was hosted at Stage 48. Hosted by the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research, the gala was the second annual event for the foundation, who strives to make strides in PWS research. With select honorees, a Key Note Speaker, and a Master of Ceremonies, the program was stacked for the evening’s festivities. The two-story venue was quickly filled with guests in black tie attire, who were treated to passed hors d’oeuvres, a selection of cocktails, and endless options to bid on at a lavish auction table. Upstairs, a photobooth and step-and-repeat allowed guests to remember the evening with photo opportunities. The homeowner’s insurance was expensive! While downstairs, a live band played and delighted attendees who spent their time on the dance floor or milling about the beautifully decorated tables. </p><p> </p><p>Slightly crosstown, hundreds of people also came together to spread awareness, raise funds, and support two incredible causes – all in the name of the Dysautonomia Foundation. In this year’s iteration of its annual gala, the foundation prepared an incredible program at New York City’s Edison Ballroom. With a touching video presentation, a successful silent auction, a buffet dinner, and cocktails galore, guests mingled and conversed all in the name of a great cause. Edison Ballroom was beautifully decorated with a classy, personalized touch to each table and on each floor of the venue. A balcony overlooked a central bar, where themed cocktails were served around a floral centerpiece. The event itself went off as smoothly as possible, delighting guests who supported a cause they believed in. Not to mention the highlight of the night: a rocking set from the four-time Grammy nominated Goo Goo Dolls, who provided unparalleled entertainment for those in attendance (and of course those following on social media). </p><p><br /> Both incredible causes to support, the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research and the Dysautonomia Foundation saw immense success in raising money and awareness on this very evening. The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research’s mission is to eliminate the challenges affected children face. Those with PWS are unable to control their food intake, and can face challenges of obesity, developmental delays, low muscle tone, and more. The disorder is very rare, occurs in approximately 1 out of every 15,000 births. The foundation strives to help those with PWS to lead full and independent lives. Similarly, with over sixty years of supporting parents and children whose lives are affected by FD, the Dysautonomia Foundation leads chapters in the USA, Israel and Canada. This neurological disease disrupts the development of the sensory and autonomic nervous systems, making normal bodily functions we take for granted (the ability to drink, cry, feel pain, etc) impossible to those affected. The Foundation has done a remarkable job at spreading knowledge about the disease and raising funds in support of its research.
